ATI Scans

CSUF requires that electronic data be scanned regularly to validate that our ATI guidelines are being enforced.  As periodic changes happen in the ATI checkpoints we need to ensure that documents which may have passed in previous scans continue to pass under current standards.  The majority of our content falls under instructional materials, content driven mainly by faculty members, and everything else falls within web.

Running Regular Scans

Electronic documents are more like living documents than anything in the paper world.  Data changes on them often and usually without any kind of notice to the page.  As these changes are happening CSUF materials undergo regular scanning to ensure that current data continues to meet current ATI guidelines and regulations.

Email Distribution and Campus Announcements

Any email distribution of non-compliant material to the CSUF campus community will get a single warning and technical support for remediation of the non-compliant message. Upon the next violation of this rule the departmental, unit, or center access to send out messages will be withdrawn. To regain access, distrutors and contributors must be retrained on ATI and Accessibility rules.

Instructional Materials Scans

CSUF offers faculty several choices when running ATI scans on instructional materials.  They include Blackboard Ally which will help faculty understand their material's accessibility and give them guidance on making their materials more accessible.  It also provides students with alternate format options.

The offices of OET, FDC, and ATC are available to help faculty review their materials, answer questions about accessibility, help create accessible documents.  The campus offers Microsoft Office and Adobe products which include accessibility checkers to help identify and remediate accessibility issues.  Training for these products are offered both in-person and offline by OET and ATC.

Procurement VPAT / ACR Reviews

Every Information and Communication Technology (ICT) product gets reviewed prior to purchase in order to generate an IT purchasing authorization number which is necessary to make the purchase via Campus funds.  Products that require a regular renewal are also given the review prior to renewal approval.  For every ICT purchase a VPAT / ACR submission is required.  All VPAT / ACR older than two years are not acceptable.

Website Scanning

CSUF keeps a list of websites and requests that changes to those sites, additions and decommissioned sites, be reported to central IT using web services.  This also applies to site owners, content contributors, and technical support.  If a problem is found central IT will report those issues to any current persons listed on the site records.  Periodically IT will reach out for site owners to verify and change any data regarding to site personnel.

Sites are scanned on a regular basis at an intermediate level and quarterly at an advanced level using Compliance Sheriff and Wave tools.  Scans are based on using Section 508, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG2.0) and CSU ATI checkpoints .  Issues are tracked and reviewed by both web site personnel and central IT web administrators.  Site owners are the first level of support for content generated by them and should be able to resolve most issues.  Any ATI issues reported within the main Campus template are handled centrally via IT web administrator and patches are released which will resolve those issues.

Vendor sites are also scanned for Section 508 and WCAG2.0 levels to ensure the Campus community is able to continue to use our resources.

IT web administrator will work with site owners for training and resolution of ATI issues.  All Campus web content creators and developers are required to undergo training in both content management and ATI standards.

Campus website ATI status is maintained and reported by central IT to Campus administration and the Office of the President. Yearly reporting is prepared on ATI processes and status yearly to CSU.
